Best Beginner Weapons in Warframe (2026): MR 0 to 8

What to buy first, and the mods that matter

Last Updated on September 11, 2026

The short answer

Buy the Braton or Karak, the Hek at MR 4, Lex and Atomos for your secondary, and an Orthos or Kronen for melee. Do The Teacher quest first: it gives you Serration, Hornet Strike and Pressure Point for free. Nataruk and Ceramic Dagger are MR 0 and MR 3 weapons that stay good all the way to Steel Path.

SlotPickWhySkip
PrimaryMK1-BratonFull-auto hitscan handles groups; the easiest gun to learn on.MK1-Paris is silent but slow; MK1-Strun only works up close.
SecondaryLatoAccurate, ammo-rich, no gimmick.MK1-Kunai and MK1-Furis are weaker and less accurate.
MeleeSkanaA plain sword with an easy stance.MK1-Bo is fast but harder to learn combos on; MK1-Furax is fists.

The first mods to rank

The Teacher quest, unlocked right after Vor's Prize, hands out most of these. Rank them before you buy another weapon; a maxed Serration does more than any MR 5 gun.

Mastery Rank gates that matter early

  • Market weapons list their MR on the blueprint; the MR 4 Hek and MR 5 Atomos are the two worth waiting for.
  • Trading unlocks at MR 2, and your MR sets how many trades you get per day.
  • The daily syndicate standing cap is 16,000 plus 500 per Mastery Rank, so ranking up speeds up every faction farm.
  • Prime parts drop for anyone, but the weapon still needs its MR to build: Lex Prime and Braton Prime are MR 8.
  • Incarnon adapters come from the Steel Path Circuit, which needs the star chart and Duviri finished; plan for them, do not chase them yet.
  • The Teacher quest, right after Vor's Prize, gives Serration, Hornet Strike, Pressure Point and Fury; do it before buying any weapon.

Still recommended, no longer worth it

WeaponWhy it fell off
AmprexMR 10 and hungry for mods you will not own yet; come back to it later.
SomaThe old beginner recommendation; MR 6 and only good once Point Strike and Vital Sense are maxed.
