Warframe Steel Path Guide (2026): Are You Ready, What Changes, and the Fastest Steel Essence
Last Updated on September 11, 2026
Steel Path is the same star chart with enemies 100 levels higher, 2.5x health and shields, and double resource and mod drop chance. It unlocks once every node before The New War is cleared and you talk to Teshin in a Relay. It is a mod check, not a Mastery Rank check: a rank 30 frame with Adaptation, a weapon with Galvanized mods and a way to strip armor or stack Viral clears the first planets; a bare meta frame does not.
Reviewed September 10, 2026, current through Update 43.5. Iceblade of Narin lands September 23 and is not reflected yet; this page is re-checked after every major patch.
Shotgun Riven Mod for 75 Steel Essence, rotates in 2d 22h 2m.
Rotation: Umbra Forma Blueprint, 50,000 Kuva, Kitgun Riven Mod, 3x Forma, Zaw Riven Mod, 30,000 Endo, Rifle Riven Mod, Shotgun Riven Mod.
| What changes | Value |
|---|---|
| Enemy level | +100 (+50 in Archwing and Railjack, +20 in Duviri) |
| Enemy health and shields | 250 percent |
| Enemy armor | Unchanged since Update 36 |
| Resource drop chance | +100 percent |
| Mod drop chance | +100 percent (not in Railjack) |
| Acolytes | Spawn every few minutes in most missions; 2 Steel Essence and a weapon arcane each |
| Eidolons | Level 110, 120 and 130; 1 Steel Essence each |
What you need first
| Requirement | Why |
|---|---|
| Every node before The New War | Clear the whole normal star chart; Duviri, Zariman, the Laboratories and Hollvania do not count. |
| Chimera Prologue | The main quest line through Chimera Prologue must be done. |
| Teshin, any Relay | Talk to him and accept. A Steel Path toggle appears in Navigation and re-locks the chart from Earth. |
The readiness checklist
Pass these before you flip the toggle. Mastery Rank is not on the list.
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Frame at rank 30 with a Forma or two | Capacity for damage and survival mods at once. |
| Armor strip or Viral and Slash | Grineer armor is what makes level 130 feel unkillable; strip it or bleed through it. |
| Galvanized mods from Arbitrations | The real damage gate: Galvanized Chamber, Savvy, Aptitude, Diffusion, Shot and the rest. |
| Adaptation, plus Rolling Guard or a damage-reduction ability | The standard answer to burst damage and Eximus. |
| One weapon arcane slotted | Merciless or Deadhead from Acolytes, or Primary Crux from The Hex; adapters are 15 Steel Essence. |
| A Helminth ability that fills a gap | Armor strip, control or a heal on a budget frame. |
| A plan for Overguard | Eximus ignore crowd control until their Overguard breaks; bring burst. |
| Element matched to the faction | Viral and Slash for Grineer, Magnetic or Toxin for Corpus, Corrosive or Heat for Infested. |
| Archon Shards socketed | Free flat stats once earned; see the Archon Shards guide. |
| A built Amp and a Focus school | The Operator is a free panic button; the starter Mote Amp is not. |
| A companion with loot or utility | Smeeta or Loyal Retriever for Steel Essence and Kuva; Panzer for fights. |
| Primed Flow, Continuity or Vigor if you have them | Not required, but they free capacity for the mods that are. |
Your first hour
- Check the Steel Path toggle is on in Navigation before you queue.
- Start at E Prime on Earth; the chart is re-locked from scratch regardless of Mastery Rank.
- Clear planets in order and bank 25 Steel Essence for each completed planet.
- Run the six daily Incursions from day one: 5 Steel Essence each, 30 a day, no planet clear needed.
- Treat Earth through Mars as a gear check. Expect deaths while you dial in armor strip and Adaptation.
- Hunt Acolytes once Adaptation and the right element are in; they hit hard and attenuate weak damage.
- Farm Arbitrations for Galvanized mods in parallel; they close more of the gap than any Primed mod.
Teshin's Steel Path Honors
Prices in Steel Essence. The rotating slot changes weekly; the live block at the top shows this week's.
| Item | Cost | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 10,000 Kuva | 15 | Evergreen, 25 a week |
| Relic Pack (3 relics) | 15 | Evergreen, 25 a week |
| Primary or Secondary Arcane Adapter | 15 each | Evergreen; the first thing to buy |
| Veiled Riven Cipher | 20 | Evergreen, 1 a week |
| Stance Forma Blueprint | 10 | Evergreen |
| Bishamo armor blueprints | 15 to 25 each | Evergreen cosmetics |
| Umbra Forma Blueprint | 150 | Rotating slot |
| 50,000 Kuva | 55 | Rotating slot |
| 3x Forma | 75 | Rotating slot |
| 30,000 Endo | 150 | Rotating slot |
| Rifle, Shotgun, Kitgun or Zaw Riven | 75 | Rotating slot |
Acolytes
- Six of them: Angst, Malice, Mania, Misery, Torment and Violence. One spawns every few minutes in most Steel Path missions; not in Archwing, Assassination or Railjack.
- Every kill drops 2 Steel Essence and one Steel Path arcane: Primary or Secondary Merciless, Deadhead or Dexterity.
- They attenuate damage and got a large stat increase in Update 40, so bring the finished build, not the leveling one.
Steel Path Circuit and Incarnons
- The Steel Path Circuit in Duviri is where Incarnon Genesis adapters come from: pick one at Tier 5 and another at Tier 10 from that week's pool of five.
- Installing an adapter costs 20 Pathos Clamps plus Duviri resources; Clamps drop from the Orowyrm and Undercroft portals.
- Rank 9 Drifter Opportunity Intrinsics let you swap an Incarnon pick for a Riven or 20,000 Kuva.
Every Steel Essence source
| Reward | From | Note |
|---|---|---|
| 25 per planet | Complete every node on a planet | 475 for the whole chart |
| 2 per Acolyte | Kill the Acolyte when it spawns | Boosted by Resource Boosters and beast loot mods |
| 5 per Incursion | Six daily alerts | 30 a day, the steadiest source |
| 1 per relic | Steel Path fissures | On top of the relic reward |
| 1 per Eidolon | Teralyst, Gantulyst, Hydrolyst | Steel Path toggled on |
| 1 per bounty | Zariman, Laboratories and Hollvania bounties | Steel Path toggled on |
| 2 per mission | Railjack missions | Steel Path toggled on |
Cheap loadouts that clear it
| Frame | Role | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Rhino | Iron Skin and Roar | A flat damage sponge and a squad damage buff, no Riven needed. |
| Nezha | Warding Halo | A cheap recastable shield and heal on starter efficiency. |
| Revenant | Mesmer Skin | Free damage-absorbing charges that stun what hits you. |
| Saryn | Spores | The kit clears rooms on base-rank mods. |
| Wukong | Defy and Celestial Twin | Hard to kill and a second damage source while you learn positioning. |

Tips that save runs
- Buy the Arcane Adapters first; 15 Steel Essence each and every weapon after that gets a slot.
- Steel Essence on the ground despawns after a couple of minutes. Grab it.
- A Resource Booster doubles Acolyte and Incursion Essence on the pickups that are boostable.
- Steel Path fissures pay a Steel Essence per relic and count for the Kuva and Relic Pack buys.
Mistakes that waste runs
- Treating Mastery Rank or a cleared normal chart as readiness.
- Trying to out-damage Grineer armor with raw damage mods and no strip or Viral.
- Chasing Primed and Riven mods before Galvanized mods.
- Fighting Eximus in the open with nothing that breaks Overguard.
- Assuming the frame matters more than the mods on it.
