Archon Shards Guide: Colors, Effects and Best Picks (2026)

Last Updated on September 10, 2026

Archon Shards are permanent stat boosts slotted into a Warframe through the Helminth, five slots per frame. There are six colors, each with its own menu of effects, and Tauforged versions give 1.5x the bonus. You farm them mainly from the weekly Archon Hunt, Netracells, and the Cavia vendor.

What are Archon Shards

Archon Shards are permanent stat-boosting items slotted into a Warframe through the Helminth infusion chair on your Orbiter, not through the normal mod system. Every Warframe has 5 dedicated shard slots, each shard rolls one of that color's fixed effect options, and you can repeat the same effect in multiple slots to stack it further.

Shard colors and effects

Each color offers one of the effects below per shard. Mix colors across the five slots to hit your build goals.

  • +5 Health per second regeneration, Tauforged +7.5
Topaz
  • Recover 1 Max Health per enemy killed with Blast damage, capped at 300 total; Tauforged recovers 2 per kill, capped at 450

Tauforged shards

Tauforged shards give 1.5x the base effect on almost every roll (e.g. Crimson Ability Strength 10% becomes 15%, Azure Max Health 150 becomes 225); the one clean exception found is Topaz's flat Health-per-Blast-kill value, which the wiki lists as 1 going to 2 per kill (a rounding quirk on an integer stat) even though its cap still scales at 1.5x (300 to 450). Tauforged shards are also simply rarer drops: Archon Hunt rewards roll 80% normal versus 20% Tauforged per run, with a pity system adding +20% to the Tauforged chance each time you whiff (resetting on a hit), which nets out to roughly a 39.83% effective Tauforged rate over time.

Shards are installed at the Helminth chair on your Orbiter into one of 5 slots per Warframe; slotting one in isn't reported to cost anything itself. Pulling an installed shard back out costs a percentage of that shard color's specific Secretion resource, currently 15% Secretion for a normal shard and 30% Secretion for a Tauforged one (this was reduced from an earlier flat 30%/50% Bile cost across all colors). The three fused colors, Topaz, Violet, and Emerald, are not farmed directly; they're made by fusing two shards of their parent colors (Crimson+Amber, Crimson+Azure, Amber+Azure respectively) through Coalescent Fusion at the Helminth, which requires the Helminth Coalescent Segment installed and reportedly costs 50 Stela per fusion; fusing two Tauforged parents yields a Tauforged result, any other pairing yields a normal one.

How to farm Archon Shards

  • Weekly Archon Hunt: a 3-mission boss rotation (Archon Nira drops Amber, Archon Boreal drops Azure, Archon Amar drops Crimson) guarantees one shard of that week's color on full clear, rolling 80% normal / 20% Tauforged with the pity system noted above.
  • Netracells (Steel Path bounty-style missions): the extraction cache can award a Crimson, Amber, or Azure shard (base or Tauforged) alongside melee Arcane Adapters/Crescendo/Duplicate, plus 5,000 Cavia standing per completed run.
  • Cavia Syndicate (Bird 3 vendor, Sanctum Anatomica): once you hit Rank 5 (Illuminate) you can buy one rotating normal-color shard per week for 30,000 standing.
  • Deep Archimedea (weekly): reward pool built around Tauforged Crimson, Amber, and Azure shards, unlocked by spending Research Points earned from clearing mission modifiers.
  • Temporal Archimedea (recurring event-style activity): a wider reward pool that also includes Tauforged Topaz, Violet, and Emerald, again gated behind Research Points from clearing parameters.
  • Kahl's Garrison no longer appears to hand out Archon Shards directly; its old weekly shard offering was reported moved over to the Cavia/Bird 3 vendor listed above (worth confirming in-game since sourcing here was thin).

Best shards to slot

  • Tauforged Crimson, Ability Strength: the single most commonly slotted shard for any ability-damage or CC caster build.
  • Amber, Casting Speed: smooths out spam-cast kits and is a near-universal quality of life pick.
  • Amber, Parkour Velocity: cheap, doesn't fight your other stat priorities, frequently used as a filler 4th or 5th shard.
  • Azure, Max Health or Energy Max: the default survivability/energy-pool filler, especially on squishier casters or frames running Arcane Energize.

Best shards by build type

Build typeRecommended shards
Caster / ability nuker (Saryn, Mesa's 4, Wisp, etc.)3 to 5x Crimson Ability Strength (Tauforged where possible), fill remaining slots with Amber Casting Speed or Azure Energy Max depending on energy economy.
Tank / EHP stacker (Inaros, Nezha, Styanax, etc.)5x Azure split across Health, Armor, and Health-regen (skip Shield Azure on shieldless frames like Inaros and Nidus).
Melee crit / exalted melee (Excalibur, Valkyr, Baruuk, etc.)Crimson and/or Violet Melee Critical Damage as the core, with 1 to 2 Crimson Ability Strength/Duration if the exalted weapon scales off abilities.
Status/DoT stacking (Saryn, Xaku, Nidus with Corrosive or Toxin kits)Emerald Corrosion-stack or Ability Damage vs Corrosion shards, or Topaz Ability Damage vs Radiation, matched to whichever status element the build actually applies.
Speed / mobility (Gauss, Wukong, Volt)Amber Parkour Velocity stacked, paired with Amber Casting Speed for weave-movement or bullet-jump-cast builds.
Energy economy / support (Trinity, Protea, Octavia)Azure Energy Max plus Amber Energy Orb effectiveness, or Violet's orb-conversion effect for frames juggling both Health and Energy pickups.
Crit or status gunner (Mesa, Harrow)Crimson Secondary Critical Chance for crit-focused secondaries, or Crimson Primary Status Chance for status-focused primaries, depending on the weapon build.
