Warframe Helminth Guide: Best Subsume Abilities (2026)
Last Updated on September 10, 2026
The Helminth lets you permanently take one ability from a Warframe and inject it onto another, so almost every endgame build runs a subsumed ability in a spare slot. Unlock it through the Heart of Deimos quest, feed it resources to rank it up, then infuse the meta picks below. Subsuming destroys the fed Warframe for good, so only feed duplicates or frames you are truly done with.

How to unlock the Helminth
- Complete the Heart of Deimos quest. This opens the Cambion Drift open world and the Entrati syndicate.
- Rank up standing with the Entrati to Rank 3 (Associate), then buy the Helminth Segment blueprint from Son in the Necralisk for 15,000 standing. Requires Mastery Rank 8.
- Build the segment (roughly 50,000 credits plus Cambion Drift materials such as Velocipod Tags, Adramal Alloy, and Ganglion; about a 24 hour build timer per the wiki and thegamer.com) and place it in the Orbiter.
- Feed the Helminth starchart and Deimos resources to fill its 6 secretion meters (Bile, Biotics, Calx, Oxides, Pheromones, Synthetics). This raises its rank over time and unlocks more of its own bonus abilities and subsume capacity.
How to subsume and infuse an ability
- Fully build a non-Prime, non-Umbra Warframe you are willing to lose for good. Prime and Umbra variants cannot be fed to Helminth at all (wiki.warframe.com, confirmed via forum/wiki cross-check).
- At the Helminth console pick Subsume Warframe, select the frame, and type CONFIRM. The frame is deleted from your inventory immediately, freeing its Warframe slot.
- Wait 23 hours (or pay 50 platinum to rush) while it digests. A colored flower blooms in the Infirmary and that frame's one fixed ability is now permanently in your Helminth library.
- On any other Warframe, choose Infuse Ability, pick which of its 4 base ability slots to overwrite, and confirm. This costs a chunk of several (not all six) secretion types depending on the ability, non-refundable.
- The swap is saved per mod configuration, so different loadout slots on the same frame can each carry a different infused ability. Higher Helminth rank (earned from subsuming, infusing, and feeding) unlocks more of Helminth's own bonus perk abilities and raises how much you can subsume/infuse.
Best subsume abilities (tier list)
These are the abilities worth infusing in 2026, ranked by how often top builds reach for them. S tier goes on almost anything; A and B are strong situational picks.
What to subsume on each frame
The most common pick for popular frames, and which of their own abilities it usually replaces. Passives and ultimates can never be subsumed over.
| Frame | Subsume | Replaces | Why |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saryn | Roar | Molt | Roar is a flat faction damage multiplier that triple dips with Toxic Lash on melee/weapon Saryn builds; it is the most repeated pick, but Molt itself is not universally agreed as the ability to give up. |
| Mesa | Eclipse | Ballistic Battery | Ballistic Battery is near-universally called Mesa's weakest slot, and Eclipse pairs with Shooting Gallery for extra crit or Shatter Shield for damage reduction. |
| Wukong | Roar | Defy | Defy is called out directly as 'the ability to replace in most scenarios' since it is redundant with Wukong's own twin tankiness; Roar is the safe universal fill. |
| Dante | Roar | Noctua | Roar multiplies weapon, companion, and ability damage, boosting Word Warden, Pageflight and Tragedy at once; Noctua's own utility is the least missed slot. |
| Rhino | Breach Surge | Rhino Charge | Rhino Charge sees little use once Roar, Iron Skin and Stomp are locked in, and Breach Surge adds finisher-vulnerability and ranged crowd control Rhino's kit otherwise lacks. |
| Nova | Roar | Null Star | Null Star's damage reduction/particle shield is the ability most skipped on Molecular Prime nuke builds; Roar is the low-effort universal pick here. |
| Octavia | Roar | Resonator | Resonator's distraction utility falls off in endgame while the Mallet/Metronome/Amp buff loop stays; Roar stacks on top of Amp's own buff for very high ability damage. |
| Nekros | Nourish | Soul Punch | Soul Punch is called Nekros's easiest slot to give up; Nourish is now widely cited as one of the strongest all-around Helminth abilities and pairs with Desecrate/Shadows survival. |
| Khora | Pillage | Venari | Venari is the slot players give up without losing Ensnare or Whipclaw (Venari still lingers as a passive); Pillage adds the armor and shield strip Khora's kit otherwise lacks. |
| Gauss | Roar | Machine Rush | Redline already covers Gauss's speed identity, so Machine Rush's slide-charge utility is the ability most players are willing to cut for a flat damage buff. |
| Revenant | Roar | Enthrall | Roar boosts weapon and thrall damage and lowers the Viral needed to one-shot non-enthralled enemies with Reave; Enthrall is the ability most Mesmer Skin/Reave builds drop first. |
| Titania | Roar | Spellbind | Spellbind is called Titania's most useless ability by community consensus; Roar boosts her exalted Razorwing weapon for DPS-focused Razorwing builds. |
| Gyre | Gloom | Arcsphere | Coil Horizon is kept for the shield-gate build and Cathode Grace/Rotorswell are core scaling, leaving Arcsphere as the flex slot for Gloom's slow and life leech. |
| Citrine | Pillage | Prismatic Gem | Prismatic Gem's low damage and narrow targeting make it the clear cut; Pillage gives full armor strip at high Strength and turns Citrine into a tanky support, per the 2026 'Endgame Paragon' style build. |
| Qorvex | Pillage | Disometric Guard | Qorvex has no native armor strip; Pillage fills that gap and its overshields stack with his already high natural tankiness. |
| Kullervo | Gloom | Wrathful Advance | Wrathful Advance's crit buff duplicates what melee crit mods already provide for most builds, so it is commonly dropped for Gloom's sustain and slow. |
| Volt | Eclipse | Discharge | Discharge's damage falls off fast, so weapon-platform Volt builds drop it for Eclipse and chain Electric Shield plus Shock Trooper for stacked damage multipliers. |
| Frost | Pillage | Freeze | Freeze is a single-target stun with little use outside niche reload cancels, making it the standard cut for Pillage's armor strip and overshields on tank/bubble Frost builds. |
| Nidus | Roar | Parasitic Link | Parasitic Link's teammate-tether effect is the least used ability in solo/meta play, and Roar directly multiplies Virulence and Larva burst damage; many players run Nidus with no subsume at all. |
| Inaros | Blood Altar | Devour | Devour and Sandstorm are Inaros's two channeled abilities and Devour is the one most commonly cut; Blood Altar's AoE heal makes Inaros close to unkillable in high-level content. |
| Hildryn | Gloom | Balefire | Pillage, big shields, and Aegis Storm already cover Hildryn's offense and defense, so Balefire is the ability most often sacrificed for Gloom's sustain and slow. |
| Baruuk | Pillage | Lull | Players who lean on Elude for defense and Elusive Retribution for damage give up Lull first; Pillage adds the armor and shield strip Baruuk's kit is missing. |
| Styanax | Pillage | Tharros Strike | Tharros Strike is Styanax's own armor-strip/heal, so it is redundant once Pillage is subsumed in; a full strip needs roughly 400 percent Strength, or 328 percent with Corrosive Projection. |
| Voruna | Gloom | Fangs of Raksh | No single subsume dominates Voruna builds; Fangs of Raksh's status stacking is the ability most often called redundant on high-status melee builds, with Gloom, Roar and Pillage all cited as fill options. |
| Protea | Pillage | Temporal Anchor | Temporal Anchor is the one ability community guides agree is safe to replace; Pillage needs about 400 percent Strength (328 percent with Corrosive Projection) for a full strip, a threshold Protea's own plus 100 percent Strength passive helps reach. |
| Xaku | Terrify | The Lost | The Lost already strips shields and armor on a single target but is slow and stationary; Terrify covers the same debuff role at range while keeping Xaku mobile. |
Helminth tips
- Pick the ability slot you press least to overwrite, not automatically the 4th slot. Passives can never be replaced, and DE deliberately excludes ultimates/exalted or identity-defining abilities from the subsume pool in the first place.
- Only feed resources marked with the green up-arrow (liked). Preferred resources convert at up to 30 percent (60 percent for a couple of special picks) versus as low as 3 percent for disliked ones, so check the arrow before dumping materials in.
- Augment mods mostly do not carry over onto an infused ability. A growing but still limited list works; verify on the wiki or Overframe before building a loadout around an augmented Helminth power.
- Each saved mod configuration can carry a different infused ability on the same frame, so you are not locked to one Helminth pick per Warframe overall, just one per config.
- Subsume duplicates or frames you already fully leveled and are done with, not fresh fodder built just to feed it. You lose the frame permanently either way, so don't burn a frame you might still want.
- Save your Invigoration Override for a frame you actually play. Random weekly rolls can land on frames sitting in storage and waste the buff pair; the override only unlocks after 10 invigorations have been applied account wide.
- Rushing a subsume costs 50 platinum for the 23 hour wait; there is no way to speed up resource feeding itself, so plan Bile/secretion farming (Deimos bounties, Railjack drops) ahead of a subsume push.
- Build the Invigoration Segment separately from the base Helminth Segment. They are two different blueprints/purchases, and Invigorations do not function without it even if your main Helminth is maxed.
Before you subsume: the catch
Subsuming is permanent and irreversible: the fed Warframe is gone from your inventory with no refund of credits, resources, or any Forma sunk into it, so treat it like committing a Forma. Only feed fully mastered frames, duplicates, or ones you are truly done with. Infusing an ability separately costs non-refundable secretions (3 of the 6 categories per ability, amount varies by which ability), on top of whatever it cost you to feed the Helminth up to that point.
Invigorations are a separate system: Invigorations need a separate Helminth Invigoration Segment: blueprint from Son for 30,000 standing (Mastery Rank 8, Entrati Rank 5 Family), or a pre-built one via the Helminth Segments Bundle for 300 platinum. Every Monday at 0:00 UTC it rolls 3 random Warframes, each getting one random offense buff paired with one random utility buff (Duration, Efficiency, Range, Armor, etc.), lasting 7 days. As of the 38.5 patch cycle, selection is fully random with equal odds for all Warframes (the old anti-repeat weighting was removed). After 10 total invigorations have been applied, an Override button unlocks letting you swap one of the 3 random picks for your currently equipped frame, capping out at up to 4 invigorated frames in a week.
