What is the Max Power Level in Destiny 2 – Witch Queen Update

Last Updated on October 17, 2022

In the This Week at Bungie released on 1/20/22, Bungie dropped information for how the Power level will be altered for The Witch Queen expansion. Power is calculated as the average level of all of your weapons and armor.  Power level affects how much damage a player deals to enemies as well as how much damage they receive from enemies. Please note, that in the PvP portion of Destiny 2, The Crucible, Power does not matter except for in the Trials of Osiris playlist and the Iron Banner playlist.

Understanding Power Levels in Destiny 2:

It’s important to know the following definitions:

  • Floor (1350)- The lowest possible Power for a piece of gear; the starting point for new characters.
  • Soft cap (1500)- The point at which general drops stop being automatic upgrades; Powerful gear drops are now the best way to gain Power.
  • Power cap (1550)- The point at which Powerful drops stop being upgrades; Pinnacle gear drops are now the only way to gain Power.
  • Hard cap (1560)- Max possible Power from Pinnacle drops (ignoring Artifact Power).

Lowest Power Level is now 1350

Starting on February 22, the Power floor will be updated to 1350. Every player who signs in will be at this Power level which is appropriate to start the Witch Queen campaign.

Through general gameplay, players can reach the soft cap of 1500 by earning general gear through activity completions, chests, and more. This includes Rare (blue) and Legendary (purple) drops. Once reaching the soft cap, players will need to earn Powerful drops from vendor challenges and other objectives in the game.  These are noted by a yellow symbol on the Director’s screen.  Once reaching the Power cap of 1550, the only upgrades that players will find are from endgame activities that offer Pinnacle rewards, which are also noted by a yellow symbol in the Director screen. Your final stretch to the hard cap of 1560 will be through raids, Trials of Osiris, Iron Banner, and other endgame PvE sources.

For those looking to be the most efficient, please check out our guide and note that completing the campaign on Legendary Difficulty will reward gear at the Power level of 1520.
