Build it for the only melee that swaps between Heavy Blade and Dual Sword stance families on one weapon; skip it for top Steel Path or Netracell clears since it has no Incarnon. Its 0% base crit chance shuts out Blood Rush entirely, cutting off half the usual melee-modding toolkit.
Dark Split-Sword is the only stock melee that natively reads both Heavy Blade and Dual Sword stance mods, swapping between a two-handed greatsword and twin blades depending on which you slot: Dual Sword mode runs about 25% crit and 15% status, Heavy Blade mode flips to about 15% crit and 25% status with more damage and range. Its stance polarity ships matched to Dual Sword (Swirling Tiger), so Heavy Blade mods need a Forma or Stance Forma to fit without a mismatch penalty.
Dark Split-Sword is a Tenno Lab research melee built off a Dual Skana that in 2026 is still the only weapon swapping between two full stance movesets, Heavy Blade and Dual Sword, on one plat-free build slot.
How to get the Dark Split-Sword
- Unlock and build a Tenno Lab in your clan’s Dojo (the room itself has to be researched and constructed before weapon research shows up in it).
- Fund the Dark Split-Sword research in the Tenno Lab: credits, Tellurium, Alloy Plate, Rubedo, and Mutagen Samples, with a multi-day timer that can vary by clan tier, so check your own Dojo’s research list rather than assuming a fixed day count.
- Once research finishes, claim the blueprint from the Tenno Lab terminal or the in-game Market’s Blueprints tab.
- Craft it in the Foundry: costs credits, Rubedo, Mutagen Mass, and 1 Dual Skana component, with roughly a half-day build timer you can rush with Platinum if you don’t want to wait.
- Equip it in the Arsenal and pick a stance family first, Heavy Blade or Dual Sword, since the default stance polarity favors Dual Sword (matches Swirling Tiger) and the two families don’t share polarity.
- If you want the other stance family later, add a Forma (clears the polarity but costs a fresh rank-up grind) or use a Stance Forma to slot either category for free if you have one.
There is no Incarnon adapter to chase for this weapon. Whether the finished weapon or its blueprint can be traded between players is unconfirmed here, so check the in-game trade filter yourself rather than assuming you can buy a finished copy off another Tenno.

| Mastery Rank | 0 |
| Attack Speed | 1 |
| Critical Chance | 0% |
| Critical Multiplier | 2x |
| Status Chance | 10% |
| Riven Disposition | (1.3) |

|---|---|
| Impact | 3.3 |
| Puncture | 3.3 |

Riven disposition is 1.3, about 4 of 5 dots and above the 1.0 midpoint, so a riven you already own is fine to use but not worth heavy plat to chase on a mid-tier weapon.
Builds
Base crit chance is 0%, crit multiplier is 2x, and status chance is about 10% with an even slash/impact/puncture split, so Blood Rush does nothing here: run status and Condition Overload instead, stacking status chance and elements with Weeping Wounds swapped in for Blood Rush. Viral (Cold plus Toxin) covers the health-damage multiplier, with Heat added as a third element for armor strip against Grineer.

Melee
| Mod | Why it’s here |
|---|---|
| Primed Pressure Point | Flat melee damage baseline, the first slot on almost any melee build including this one. |
| Reach | Bigger hitbox tags more enemies per swing, which matters more here since combo building and status stacking both want multiple hits landing at once. |
| North Wind | Cold half of a Viral combo, and adds status chance alongside the raw Cold damage. |
| Virulent Scourge | Toxin half of the Viral combo, and one of the few melee elemental mods that also adds flat status chance. |
| Fever Strike | Heat on top of Viral procs armor off Grineer targets and keeps damage ticking. |
| Condition Overload | Main damage scalar for this build, since every unique status already on the target boosts your melee damage further. |
| Weeping Wounds | Converts your combo counter into extra status chance the same way Blood Rush converts it into crit chance, except this weapon actually has a status base worth multiplying. |
| Galvanized Elementalist | Adds more elemental damage plus a status chance bump that grows with every unique status already on the enemy, feeding the same Condition Overload plan. |
Melee Influence is the top pick, spreading landed status effects to enemies in a radius to turn a Condition Overload/Viral build into an AoE status generator; Melee Fortification is the cheaper, easier-to-source alternative, adding armor per kill instead.

Pros and Cons
Pros
- Only stock melee that swaps between Heavy Blade and Dual Sword stance families on one weapon
- Fully buildable with credits and farmable resources, no platinum required
- Riven disposition 1.3 sits above the 1.0 midpoint for stronger-than-average rolls
- Access to two full stance movesets, six stance mods total, instead of one
- Cheap entry point for players still filling out early melee mods and Tenno Lab research
Cons
- No Incarnon Genesis adapter, so it caps out below 2026’s top-tier Steel Path and Netracell melees
- 0% base crit chance takes Blood Rush and any crit-chase mod off the table entirely
- Switching stance families after your first Forma costs another Forma or a Stance Forma
- Sits mid-tier on current tier lists, a fun budget pick rather than a meta one
This is for newer or budget players who want a cheap, plat-free melee with real build variety, not for anyone chasing top Steel Path or Netracell clears where Incarnon and Tenet or Kuva melees outperform it.
