Skip it unless you already rolled a good-element Lich for it: the Kraken needs heavy Forma and mod investment, and other Kuva secondaries like the Nukor or Brakk hit similar numbers with far less setup. The real weakness is a middling 21% crit chance combined with a bonus element locked in by RNG at acquisition, so a bad roll means vanquishing another Lich from scratch.
Every Kuva Kraken gets a random 25-60% bonus element (Impact, Heat, Cold, Electricity, Toxin, Magnetic, or Radiation) set by the Warframe that spawned its parent Lich, so no two copies match. Alt-fire dumps the full 21-round magazine into one continuous burst instead of 3-round taps, for a one-shot hit on bosses and heavy units.
The Kuva Kraken is the Kuva Lich version of the Kraken, a three-round-burst Grineer revolver pistol, and it still matters in 2026 for one trick: holding the trigger dumps the whole magazine in one continuous burst for a serious hit on a boss or heavy target.
How to get the Kuva Kraken
- Complete The War Within and reach Mastery Rank 15 so the weapon can be equipped once obtained.
- Farm Kuva thralls and kill a Grineer to spawn a Kuva Lich, then check its weapon icon before you commit; you need it to show a Kraken, and there’s no way to force this roll.
- If the Lich doesn’t carry a Kraken, kill it (it respawns as a Lich with a new random weapon and element) and keep trying, or check Varzia/trade chat for anyone offering a Kraken-Lich carry.
- Learn the Lich’s Requiem murmurs by killing its thralls and stabbing it with the Parazon (each stab reveals or eliminates a Requiem mod).
- Once you know the correct 3-mod Requiem combo, vanquish (do not convert) the Lich; converting it as an ally forfeits the weapon.
- The Kuva Kraken appears in your Foundry to claim for free, already carrying whatever bonus element the Lich rolled; check that element before spending Forma or a riven on it.
Kuva weapons cannot be bought outright since they only come from vanquishing a Lich; some players sell full “vanquish carry” services for a specific weapon/element on trade chat or Discord, but that’s a community arrangement, not an official market. A second copy for a different element or riven-fishing means finding and vanquishing another Kraken-Lich from zero, and you still need to craft or buy an Orokin Catalyst separately since it doesn’t come with the drop.

Riven disposition is a modest 1.10, the middle band, so only chase one if you already love the alt-fire playstyle, not for the base 21% crit and 29% status alone.
Builds
This is a hybrid crit/status build for the Kuva Kraken, using Creeping Bullseye and Hollow Point to push both stats while Primed Target Cracker rewards the crits that land. Pathogen Rounds and Deep Freeze combine into Viral, stacking with the akimbo pistols’ progenitor element to melt health and strip armor together.

Pistol
| Mod | Why it’s here |
|---|---|
| Hornet Strike | Hornet Strike raises the Kuva Kraken’s base damage, boosting every other percentage mod on this hybrid pistol build. |
| Barrel Diffusion | Barrel Diffusion adds multishot so each akimbo Kraken shot gets more chances to crit and proc status. |
| Creeping Bullseye | Creeping Bullseye pushes both crit chance and status chance at once, matching the Kraken’s balanced 21/29 hybrid profile. |
| Primed Target Cracker | Primed Target Cracker multiplies crit damage so the Kraken’s 21% crit chance hits much harder when it lands. |
| Hollow Point | Adds crit damage for a base-damage tradeoff, hitting harder once crit chance is stacked. |
| Pathogen Rounds | Pathogen Rounds adds Toxin damage, pairing with Deep Freeze to form Viral for bonus health damage over time. |
| Deep Freeze | Deep Freeze adds Cold damage and a freeze chance, completing the Viral combo with Pathogen Rounds against armored foes. |
| Galvanized Diffusion | Galvanized Diffusion adds more multishot and scales bonus status chance as the akimbo Kraken racks up kills. |
Secondary Merciless is the best pick, stacking crit chance per kill to compound with the 2.3x crit multiplier; if you don’t have it, Secondary Deadhead from Steel Path Acolytes is a free alternative that stacks headshot damage and reduced recoil instead.

Pros and Cons
Pros
- Alt-fire mag-dump turns the whole 21-round magazine into one massive burst against bosses and heavy units
- Solid 29% base status chance makes Viral and slash-proc builds reliable
- Strong 2.3x crit multiplier rewards even modest crit investment
- Large 21-round magazine with a fast 1.5s reload keeps it shooting more than reloading
- Free 25-60% bonus elemental damage from the Lich’s progenitor Warframe at no mod cost
Cons
- Mediocre 21% base crit chance lags behind top-tier Kuva secondaries
- 75% of its base damage is Impact, so it needs modding before status procs get useful
- Bonus element is locked in by RNG at acquisition; a bad roll means farming a whole new Lich
- Generally ranked mid-pack (C-tier) in 2026 community tier lists, needing real Forma investment to keep pace
This weapon suits players who already rolled a good-element Kraken Lich and want a flashy burst-dump sidearm for solo bossing, not anyone shopping for a meta secondary.
