Best Warframe for Defense Missions

Last Updated on September 9, 2026

Best Warframe for Defense: Gara. Mass Vitrify seals the pod behind a glass wall that blocks incoming fire, and Shattered Lash turns everything that wall soaked up into a room-clearing nuke. Runner-up: Frost, the cheaper dome tank that works from your very first Defense run.

WeaponWhy
ToridIts evolved gas clouds keep DoT-ticking on a whole pack with zero blast knockback, so waves die in place around the pod instead of getting scattered off it.
Coda BubonicoPrimary fire is a continuous toxin/viral spray, not a detonation, so it strips entire waves without ever punting an enemy off the defense target.
Tenet Arca PlasmorInfinite punch-through lets one wide radiation wave drop an entire lane of enemies with no ragdoll to send them flying away from the objective.
Ignis WraithA sustained flamethrower beam melts a whole room with no knockback at all, so every kill happens right where the enemy is standing, next to the pod.
Cedo PrimeThe glaive alt-fire status-primes whole packs on contact so the shotgun follow-up drops them instantly instead of blasting them away from the target.

Gara: glass wall nuke

Mass Vitrify throws a 360° glass wall around the pod that blocks incoming fire and physically stops enemies from reaching it, storing the damage it soaks up in a pool. Shattered Lash then detonates that stored damage as a room-clearing nuke and refreshes Splinter Storm’s roughly 90% damage reduction. More than one guide backs her as the premier scaling-damage pick for Defense.

Strength: maxDuration: highEfficiency: midRange: high

Gara needs real Strength and Duration investment before the wall-nuke loop actually scales. Budget players get more value running Frost until they have the forma to spare.

Frost: instant dome tank

Snow Globe drops an immediate dome that hard-blocks ranged damage to the pod, and Chilling Globe freezes anything that walks in solid. He’s still the fallback anyone reaches for when the squad doesn’t have a built Gara or Limbo yet.

Strength: highDuration: highEfficiency: midRange: low

Frost is the budget pick himself: cheap to build early and effective at Globe with little to no forma. That’s why he’s everyone’s default before a better frame is ready.

Limbo: freeze the room

Cataclysm drops a rift bubble over the objective, and Stasis freezes every projectile and enemy caught inside it mid-flight, so nothing ever reaches the pod. Guides built around picking a frame per mission flat-out call him the best Defense and Mobile Defense pick there is. Stasis also locks up teammates’ bullets and melee swings inside the bubble, so this is a solo or premade-squad pick more than a random-matchmaking one.

Strength: lowDuration: maxEfficiency: midRange: high

Limbo’s own build is cheap, but locking teammates’ bullets inside Stasis makes him a rough pick for random squads. Save him for premades or solo runs.

Saryn: spores that snowball

Spores infect the crowd and chain between enemies, and Miasma detonates them for room-clearing Corrosive damage. That damage only gets stronger the more enemies a Defense wave throws at her. One 2026 write-up flat-out calls her essential for Defense and Survival, on top of the S-tier reputation she’s carried for years.

Strength: highDuration: lowEfficiency: midRange: max

Her damage scales off enemy count more than raw mod investment. Even a lightly-modded Spores and Miasma build clears low-to-mid level Defense fine.

Protea: shields and sniper turret

Grenade Fan’s Shield Satellites keep squad shields topped off on a timer, while Blaze Artillery snipes tough units at range. She covers both sides of Defense at once: don’t let the pod get shot, and kill the threat before it arrives. A couple of guides single out this exact combo for Defense specifically.

Strength: highDuration: highEfficiency: midRange: mid

Dispensary gives Protea her own free energy regen, so she skips efficiency mods and a Zenurik build entirely. That saves the slots that usually cost the most.

Wisp: free squad buffs

Reservoirs blanket the team and objective area with damage buffs, health regen, and enemy-stunning shock motes, all for free. None of that costs a cast during the wave itself. Best-frame-per-mission breakdowns usually put her right next to Protea and Trinity.

Strength: midDuration: highEfficiency: midRange: high

Even a barely-modded Wisp still drops all three Reservoir buffs for the squad. Gear investment can wait until your damage dealer is built.

Honorable mentions

  • Dante: Overguard shields squad, nukes rooms
  • Octavia: Mallet and Resonator tank aggro
  • Citrine: Preserving Shell shields the squad
  • Trinity: Infinite energy plus team healing
