Build it if the Necrophagic Vigor augment is unlocked, skippable otherwise. The Coda variant’s 20% crit chance and 100% innate Viral damage make it a genuinely strong burst rifle once the health-drain mechanic is turned into a crit buff, but the health cost still asks something most rifles do not.
Reloading drains a portion of the user’s max health instead of drawing from an ammo pool, and headshots return 5% of that health back. The Necrophagic Vigor augment converts the health spent on reload into stacking critical chance and critical damage.
Coda Hema is the Technocyte Coda upgrade of the Infested burst rifle Hema, sold by Eleanor at The Hex after a Coda Lich is defeated.
It keeps the original Hema’s health-for-ammo reload but improves crit chance, crit multiplier, fire rate, and magazine size over the base weapon.
It is back in build discussions in 2026 because the Necrophagic Vigor Nightwave augment turns the health drain into a real crit chance and crit damage buff instead of just a drawback.
How to get the Coda Hema
- Finish The Hex quest.
- With no active Lich, Sister or Coda, run a Hollvania Exterminate, Hell-Scrub or Legacyte Harvest and pick up the Mixtape. Hack it (a Potency mod on success) and Arthur announces the new Technocyte Coda.
- Slot up to three Antivirus mods on the Parazon and mercy-kill Coda Duets on the band’s nodes until the right mod confirms; each hit raises the Disinfection meter, and missions on their nodes add 5 percent.
- At 100 percent, follow the Coda to Earth Proxima and finish it in a Railjack showdown for 10 to 15 Live Heartcells.
- Buy the Coda Hema from Eleanor in the Hollvania Central Mall for 10 Live Heartcells. Her shop shows two batches of Coda weapons that rotate every four days, each with a random bonus element and percentage (25 to 60).
Coda members ignore the progenitor system, so the element is whatever the shop rolls; Valence Fusion merges two copies up to 60 percent and lets you keep the element you want. Rank 40 with five Forma.
Stats
| Class | Primary |
|---|---|
| Mastery Rank | 17 |
| Trigger | BURST |
| Noise | Alarming |
| Fire Rate | 6.15 |
| Accuracy | 20 |
| Magazine | 72 |
| Reload | 2 s |
| Critical Chance | 20% |
| Critical Multiplier | 2.3x |
| Status Chance | 30% |
| Riven Disposition | (0.95) |
| Damage | 52 total |
|---|---|
| Viral | 52 |
0.95 riven disposition is high, so a riven is worth chasing on Coda Hema since rolls land close to their potential. Crit chance or crit damage stats pay off most given the weapon’s already-strong 20% crit chance and 2.3x multiplier.
Builds
Run a crit build around Point Strike, Vital Sense, and a headshot-chance mod, since the weapon’s 20% base crit and 2.3x multiplier reward reliable crits more than status investment. Pair it with Necrophagic Vigor if unlocked, since the reload’s health drain then becomes stacking crit chance and damage instead of a pure downside.

Rifle
| Mod | Why it’s here |
|---|---|
| Serration | Flat rifle damage bonus that scales the rest of the build. |
| Point Strike | Pushes crit chance up from the already solid 20% base. |
| Vital Sense | Crit damage bonus that pays off on the weapon’s 2.3x base multiplier. |
| Split Chamber | Multishot means more bullets per burst rolling for crits and status. |
| Galvanized Scope | Stacks bonus crit chance on headshot kills, rewarding the weapon’s headshot lifesteal passive. |
| Primed Cryo Rounds | Adds Cold damage to build toward Corrosive against armor alongside the innate Viral base damage. |
| Argon Scope | Temporary large crit chance spike after a headshot, easy to trigger given the lifesteal incentive to aim for heads. |
| Critical Delay | Trades some fire rate for a large flat crit chance boost, a fair trade on a weapon that already fires in fast bursts. |
Primary Merciless is the top pick for raw stacking damage on kills. Primary Crux, from The Hex, is the cheaper alternative while you farm Acolytes for Merciless.

Pros and Cons
Pros
- 20% base crit chance and 2.3x multiplier, strong for a burst rifle
- 100% innate Viral damage needs no elemental combo to proc Viral
- Headshot lifesteal offsets some of the reload health cost
- Necrophagic Vigor augment turns the health drain into a crit buff
- 0.95 riven disposition, high for a rifle
Cons
- Reloading still costs real health, dangerous without a tanky frame or the Necrophagic Vigor augment
- Requires the equipped Warframe to have decent max health to get full value from the health drain mechanics
- Necrophagic Vigor is a rotating Nightwave item, not always purchasable
- Reported host-only bug where Necrophagic Vigor’s buff does not apply for non-host players as of mid-2026
Best for players running tanky or high max-health frames who want a crit rifle with built-in Viral and are willing to build around the health-drain reload.
