Build it if the fan-grenade reload appeals, skip it if you want a crit weapon. Its biggest strength is running two jobs at once: a ramping corrosive beam for sustained status damage and three grenades on reload for burst AoE. The real weakness is an 11% crit chance and a 0.65 riven disposition, so its ceiling comes from multishot and status stacking, not crit scaling.
Reloading throws the magazine as grenades that detonate for heavy Corrosive blast damage. A reload from a fully empty magazine launches three grenades in a fan and hits far harder than a partial reload, roughly nine times the explosion damage by wiki figures. The primary beam also ramps from 20% to 100% damage over the first 0.6 seconds of holding the trigger.
Coda Catabolyst is the Technocyte Coda version of the Catabolyst, an infested pistol pulled off the shelf and made relevant again by Update 38.5 Techrot Encore. It kept the beam-plus-grenade-reload gimmick and raised the base stats.
Players talk about it in 2026 because it does two jobs from one loadout slot: a sustained corrosive beam for regular fights and a burst AoE grenade fan on reload. That flexibility, plus its MR 17 gate, keeps it a mid-to-late-game pickup rather than a starter weapon.
How to get the Coda Catabolyst
- Finish The Hex quest.
- With no active Lich, Sister or Coda, run a Hollvania Exterminate, Hell-Scrub or Legacyte Harvest and pick up the Mixtape. Hack it (a Potency mod on success) and Arthur announces the new Technocyte Coda.
- Slot up to three Antivirus mods on the Parazon and mercy-kill Coda Duets on the band’s nodes until the right mod confirms; each hit raises the Disinfection meter, and missions on their nodes add 5 percent.
- At 100 percent, follow the Coda to Earth Proxima and finish it in a Railjack showdown for 10 to 15 Live Heartcells.
- Buy the Coda Catabolyst from Eleanor in the Hollvania Central Mall for 10 Live Heartcells. Her shop shows two batches of Coda weapons that rotate every four days, each with a random bonus element and percentage (25 to 60).
Coda members ignore the progenitor system, so the element is whatever the shop rolls; Valence Fusion merges two copies up to 60 percent and lets you keep the element you want. Rank 40 with five Forma.

| Fire Rate | 12 |
| Accuracy | 6.3 |
| Magazine | 37 |

| Critical Multiplier | 2.9x |
| Status Chance | 50% |
| Riven Disposition | (0.65) |

| Corrosive | 56 |
Riven disposition sits at 0.65, middling for a secondary. A riven helps but isn’t essential given the weapon’s own multishot and status headroom, and with only 11% base crit chance a riven built purely for crit is a weak return.
Builds
Run a status-stacking build: multishot to double-dip Corrosive procs, Galvanized Shot for scaling damage per proc type, and three dual-stat elementals on top of the innate Corrosive. Crit mods are wasted on an 11 percent base; put those slots into status and multishot.

Pistol
| Mod | Why it’s here |
|---|---|
| Hornet Strike | Flat +220% damage at max rank, the base every other bonus multiplies from. |
| Barrel Diffusion | Adds multishot so each beam tick and every reload grenade rolls status twice. |
| Lethal Torrent | Fire rate plus a second multishot source, more Corrosive ticks per second. |
| Galvanized Diffusion | Adds multishot, and every kill stacks more multishot for a while. |
| Galvanized Shot | Adds status chance, and every kill adds direct damage per status type already on the target. |
| Primed Heated Charge | Adds Heat damage and status chance; with Pistol Pestilence it forms Gas for a lingering cloud. |
| Pistol Pestilence | Adds Toxin damage and status chance, the other half of Gas. |
| Frostbite | Adds Cold damage and status chance as one more proc type for Galvanized Shot to count. |
Secondary Merciless is the top pick, kills stack a damage buff up to 12 times over 4 seconds each plus bonus reload speed at max rank, and this weapon’s clear speed keeps that stack full. Secondary Deadhead is a cheaper, more common alternative, +120% damage for 24 seconds on precision headshot kills, stacking up to 3 times, though it needs deliberate headshots rather than beam spray.

Pros and Cons
Pros
- Corrosive innate damage strips armor without extra mods
- 50% status chance supports a pure status build
- Reload-grenade adds free AoE burst on top of the beam
- High fire rate and 37-round magazine keep the beam running
Cons
- 11% crit chance makes crit builds a poor investment
- Low accuracy spread hurts damage at range
- 0.65 riven disposition limits how much a riven can push it
Good pick for players who want a status secondary that also throws free grenades on reload, not for anyone chasing crit numbers.
