The short answer
Scan live Feral Kavats in the Orokin Derelict on Deimos for 10 Kavat Genetic Codes, get the Kavat Incubator Upgrade Segment, and incubate. Take Smeeta for the easy pick, Vasca for a revive, or Adarza for critical chance. Vasca is the only one that takes extra steps.

From nothing to a Kavat
- Get the Kavat Incubator Upgrade Segment: research it in a clan Dojo, or take it as a Hyekka Master drop.
- Farm 10 Kavat Genetic Codes: scan live Feral Kavats in the Orokin Derelict on Deimos with a Codex or Synthesis Scanner.
- Best node is Horend (Capture). Phlegyas (Exterminate) and Formido (Sabotage) also work. Dead Kavats give no codes.
- Build an Incubator Power Core, then start the incubation with the codes.
- Wait 48 hours, or 24 with the Nutrio Incubator Upgrade Segment. Claim and name your Kavat.
- For a Vasca, take a Kavat to the Plains of Eidolon at night and let a wild Vasca bite it.
- Use a Genetic Code Template on the infected Kavat. That cures it and gives a Vasca imprint. Two Vasca imprints guarantee a Vasca.

Tips that save runs
- Each scan of a live Feral Kavat has a 25 percent chance of a code. Squad size sets how many Kavats spawn, so bring a full squad.
- Imprinting an infected Kavat cures it, but it can catch the virus again. The Vasca Curative from Teasonai in Cetus makes it immune.
- DNA integrity and loyalty were removed in Update 30.5. A Kavat needs no upkeep.
Mistakes that waste runs
- Scanning dead Kavats. They give Simaris standing but no codes.
- Scanning the wild Vasca on the Plains for codes. Those give none.
