Burston Prime

Build it if you’ve already unlocked Steel Path and don’t mind grabbing the Incarnon Genesis adapter. Skip it if that’s not you. On its own, base Burston Prime is a mid-tier burst rifle. It won’t carry Steel Path content by itself. Slot the Incarnon in and it becomes one of the strongest primaries in the current meta.

Unique trait: Incarnon Genesis

Land 20 weakpoint hits, hit Alt-Fire, and Burston Prime turns fully automatic: Heat damage, a small 2m explosion on every shot, better crit chance and fire rate on top. Per-hit damage drops off, and it fades at range. The meter resets every mission too, so you’re earning it fresh each time. Not a beam mode. An auto-fire explosive mode.

Burston Prime dates back to 2015, and Digital Extremes never bothered vaulting it. For most of its life, that barely mattered. It was a fine, forgettable relic pull, nothing more. Update 43 changes the calculus, and the whole question of whether it’s worth building comes down to one add-on. Skip the Incarnon Genesis adapter and you’re carrying a B-tier rifle. Install it and you’re carrying something people are calling one of the best primaries in the game right now.

Two tier lists from September 2026 rate this weapon completely differently, and both are right. One looks at the base gun, calls it mid-pack, and notes it fades fast without the Incarnon upgrade. The other only looks at the Incarnon-equipped version, rates it S-tier, and points to the crit stats as the reason why. Same weapon. Two very different builds.

How to get the Burston Prime

Mastery Rank 12 is the requirement to equip it. That rules it out as an early-game pickup no matter how you farm it.

The four parts, Blueprint, Barrel, Receiver and Stock, drop from Void Relics spanning all four tiers: Lith, Meso, Neo and Axi. Burston Prime is Never Vaulted. Some of its original 2015 relics did get retired over the years (Neo Z4 in 2018, Lith O1 in 2018, Lith P2 in 2019), but DE kept reissuing its parts into fresh relics ever since. You’re never stuck waiting on a Prime Resurgence rotation for this one. As of September 2026, the parts show up in relics like Axi A22, Meso K8, Lith A12, Axi T13, Lith S18 and Meso V13. Relic drop tables shift as new Primes launch, so check your own relic screen in-game before committing to a farm. Don’t trust a list that’s a few months stale. Build all four parts, then build the weapon at the Foundry.

Building the gun itself is easy. What actually makes it worth carrying is the Burston Incarnon Genesis adapter, shared with the standard non-Prime Burston. Unlocking it means finishing The Duviri Paradox and Angels of the Zariman first, then turning on Steel Path. From there, you either earn it as a Steel Path Circuit reward from Cavalero at the Chrysalith, or skip the grind and buy it from Cavalero for 120 Platinum, which includes the resources needed to install it. Installing costs 20 Pathos Clamps, 60 Rune Marrow and 20 Maw Fang. Already running Steel Path and Zariman content? You probably have those sitting in your inventory already. If not, this is a real wall. Two quests, a Steel Path unlock, and either a grind or a plat purchase, before the weapon does anything special.

Riven disposition sits at 1.35x, comfortably in the middle of the scale. That’s enough headroom to roll a crit chance, crit damage or multishot riven and actually feel it, instead of the weak returns you’d get from a low-disposition weapon.

Builds

This build assumes the Incarnon adapter is installed, since that’s the only version of Burston Prime worth min-maxing. The plan is simple. Push crit chance and crit damage high enough to land red crits once the weapon evolves past its second tier. Run Cold and Toxin together for Viral, so shielded and fleshy targets both take extra damage. Let Galvanized Chamber’s on-kill multishot stacking snowball once you’re a few kills deep into a room. Evolution picks matter too. Fortress Salvo at the second evolution adds 42% damage once a target’s armor passes 450, plus 2 punch through, which matters a lot against armored Grineer. The third evolution is a choice between Kinetic Battle for 50% less recoil or Extended Volley for more magazine if you’re running a riven that shrinks it. For the fourth, crit builds want Absolute Valor for 22% more base crit chance. A status-leaning build can take Fatal Affliction instead, for bonus direct damage per status type already on the target.

Galvanized Chamber+80% multishot, plus +30% more multishot on kill for 20 seconds, stacking up to 5 times

Primed Cryo Rounds+165% Cold damage, half of the Viral combo with Malignant Force
Malignant Force+60% Toxin damage and +60% status chance, the other half of the Viral combo
Critical Delay+200% critical chance, at the cost of 20% less fire rate
Gilded TruthBurston Prime’s exclusive augment (Arbiters of Hexis, rank 4, 25,000 rep): +80% fire rate and a stacking ‘Truth’ proc
Vigilante SuppliesConverts secondary ammo pickups into primary ammo, 30% of the pickup value, in the flex Exilus slot

Gilded Truth deserves its own mention. It’s Burston Prime’s only exclusive augment, unlocked through Arbiters of Hexis at rank 4 for 25,000 reputation, and it’s generally described as making each ‘Truth’ stack detonate a Gas proc around you that also heals you. DE’s own mod text just lists “+1 ‘Truth'” without spelling out the actual numbers. Treat the healing and damage as a real bonus, not something to build your survivability plan around.

Arcane slot goes to Primary Deadhead. It stacks bonus damage after precision and headshot kills, up to +360% at max stacks, and that adds up fast once your Incarnon crit numbers are already high. Primary Merciless is the usual swap if you’d rather have flat multishot for general add-clear instead of a stacking headshot bonus.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Rated S-tier with the Incarnon Genesis installed, named one of the strongest primaries in the 2026 meta for Steel Path, Archon Hunts and Netracells
  • Burst-fire means noticeably better ammo economy than full-auto rifles like the Soma or Synapse
  • Gilded Truth, its exclusive augment, adds AoE Gas damage and self-healing on top of raw damage
  • Never Vaulted, so it’s always farmable through current relics, no waiting on a Prime Resurgence rotation
  • 1.35x riven disposition leaves solid headroom for a crit or multishot riven

Cons

  • The base, non-Incarnon weapon is mid-pack at best, B-tier on its own, and easy to forget about
  • Incarnon Genesis is locked behind finishing The Duviri Paradox, Angels of the Zariman, and unlocking Steel Path, plus either a Circuit grind or a 120-plat purchase
  • Incarnon mode isn’t always on. It needs 20 weakpoint hits banked first, and its explosive Heat damage falls off at range
  • MR 12 keeps it out of early-game loadouts entirely

This is a weapon for players who already have Steel Path unlocked and want a crit-heavy burst primary, something that isn’t just another bottomless-mag full-auto rifle. Haven’t touched Steel Path yet? Not planning to grind out or buy the Incarnon adapter? There are primaries that’ll give you more for less setup.

If you built Burston Prime years ago and shelved it, this is the year it earns a second look. Grab the adapter, run the crit build above, and it holds its own in Steel Path.
