Warframe Stuttering and Frame Drops Fix (2026): DirectX 12 Shader Cache, Overlays and the Rest

Stutter in Warframe has one usual cause: DirectX 12 compiling shaders with a cache that is too small, so it keeps recompiling as you move between areas. The fix is to switch the launcher to DirectX 11, or to live with DirectX 12 and let the cache warm up. After that it is overlays, then storage, then drivers. Do them in that order.

Do these in order
- Launcher gear icon: set DirectX 11, Verify, Optimize, restart. Play two missions. If the hitches are gone, you are done; DirectX 12 was the cause.
- If you want DirectX 12 for the crowd performance: keep it, play a few missions in each tileset so the shader cache fills, and accept a hitch on the first visit to each area. Deleting the NVIDIA DXCache folder resets it, which is a temporary fix only.
- Close every overlay DE lists as a conflict: Rivatuner Statistics Server, MSI Afterburner OSD, Razer Synapse and Chroma SDK, Raptr, GeDoSaTo, Lucid VirtuWatt, Baidu IME. Discord's overlay too.
- Display Mode Fullscreen. If you need Borderless on DirectX 11, turn on Optimized Flip-Model in Advanced.
- Move the game to an SSD if it is on a hard drive; texture streaming from a spinning disk is a hitch on every new tile.
- Update the GPU driver with a clean install and take the pending Windows update.
- Turn off Windows Game Mode and Xbox Game Bar recording; both are known to cause periodic hitches.
