Warframe on ROG Ally, ROG Ally X and Legion Go (2026): Resolution, TDP Modes, FSR and Controls
Last Updated on September 30, 2026
Warframe runs natively on Windows handhelds, so there is no Proton layer and no Deck workaround to learn. Three choices decide how it feels: the performance mode (Armoury Crate SE or Legion Space), the render resolution, and FSR 3.1. Start at 15 W with FSR 3.1 on Quality, cap Max Framerate at 60 on battery, and use the higher power modes when plugged in.

Setup in order
- Install Warframe from Steam or the standalone launcher from warframe.com, and keep it on the internal SSD.
- Launcher, gear icon: Verify, then Optimize. Set Graphics API to DirectX 11 for battery sessions; test DirectX 12 once while plugged in.
- Pick the power mode. Ally: Armoury Crate SE, Command Center, Performance. Legion Go: Legion Space, Balance (Legion L + Y cycles the thermal modes).
- Set the screen refresh rate. Ally: leave it at 120 Hz. Legion Go: 60 Hz for battery, 144 Hz when plugged in, in Legion Space or Settings, System, Display.
- In Options, Display: Display Mode Fullscreen, Video Resolution from the table, Max Framerate to match, Reduce Frame Latency On.
- Options, Display, Upscaling: Method FSR 3.1, Quality. Move to Balanced only if frames still fall short.
- Graphics: Shadow Quality Low or Medium, Volumetric Lighting off, Particle System Quality Medium, Texture Memory Medium.
- Play with the built-in pad. If buttons stick or double up, close Steam and turn Steam Input off for Warframe, or start from the official Warframe layout.
When the CPU is the problem
If the GPU is idling and the frame time still spikes when a room fills, the CPU is the limit. CPUCores (our own tool, sold on Steam) moves Windows and background processes off the cores the game is using; it helps most on 4 and 6 core CPUs with a lot running in the background, and it does nothing for a GPU or network bottleneck.
CPUCores: Maximize Your FPS
If you’ve worked through the settings above and still get stutter, the bottleneck is often background processes stealing CPU time from the game. CPUCores isolates Windows and background tasks onto separate cores so your game gets the rest. It launches straight from Steam and detects your library automatically.
Tips that save runs
- Both handhelds share system memory with the GPU. The Legion Go's 16 GB is soldered and shared, so close other apps before a session.
- The Legion Go panel is 16:10. Leave Aspect Ratio on Auto and pick 16:10 resolutions so the image is not stretched.
- Battery: dropping from Turbo to Performance or Silent on the Ally, or to Quiet on the Legion Go, and lowering brightness are the two biggest levers.
Mistakes that waste runs
- Running native 2560 x 1600 on the Legion Go in Quiet mode and blaming the game. The resolution is the cost; lower it or use FSR.
- Using Turbo or Performance mode unplugged and wondering why the battery is gone. ASUS reserves 30 W for AC power, and Lenovo suggests Performance mode for wall power.
- Leaving both Steam Input and a handheld button-mapping layer active, so every press registers twice.
