The short answer

Howl of the Kubrow is how you get your first pet. A five minute Survival on Venus pays the Incubator Segment, Kubrow dens on Earth drop the egg (100 percent during the quest), and an Incubator Power Core from the Mars Junction hatches it; the Kubrow then matures over real time before a five-wave Defense on Earth with it as the objective. Cheap, slow, and the door to Kavats and Vulpaphylas later.

Stage by stage

Acquire the Incubator Segment: Unda, Venus: Survive a 5-minute Corpus survival mission to acquire the Incubator Segment.
Install the Incubator Segment: Install the acquired Incubator Segment in the Orbiter.
Find a Kubrow Egg in Feral Kubrow dens: E Prime, Earth: Destroy Kubrow Dens on Earth Grineer Forest tilesets to find a Kubrow Egg, or purchase one. Watch: The drop rate for the Kubrow Egg is 100% during the quest, but players can also buy it from the Market.
Incubate and mature a Kubrow using the Incubator: Incubate the Kubrow Egg using an Incubator Power Core. Watch: An Incubator Power Core is required and can be obtained from the Earth to Mars Junction, crafted from a blueprint, or purchased from the Market.
Defend your Kubrow in combat: Gaia, Earth: Complete a 5-wave Defense mission on Earth with the Kubrow as the defense objective. Watch: The Kubrow can be revived if it goes into bleedout during the defense mission.

Choices and what they change

Kubrow variant, height, gender, color, and fur pattern are random unless Genetic Code Templates or a Helminth Cyst are used during incubation.
