Build it if RNG hands you the Lich. As of September 2026 the Kuva Zarr is still one of the better room-clearing primaries for Steel Path, and one of the few AoE weapons that survived DE’s headshot rework with its usefulness intact. It’s not the auto-include it was back in 2022. And the ammo pool is small enough that you’ll burn a mod slot just keeping the thing fed.
Primary fire lobs an explosive cannonball with a 7m blast radius, splitting into three more bomblets on impact. Built for clearing rooms, not picking off one guy. Alt-fire swaps it into Barrage mode, a 10-pellet, high-puncture shotgun blast with long punch-through, built for single tough targets instead of crowds.
The Zarr was already a room-clearing launcher before Kuva Liches ever existed. The Kuva variant takes that base kit and stacks a free Progenitor damage bonus on top, no plat, no blueprint grind, just a Lich you already have to kill. It used to be the single most-used weapon in the game, by a wide margin. It’s still good. Just not the only answer anymore.
If you’d rather watch a current build in action than read stat blocks, here’s a 2026 build guide for it.
How to get the Kuva Zarr
You can’t craft or buy this one: it only exists as loot on a Kuva Lich, and which weapon your Lich carries is pure RNG.
- Spawn a Kuva Lich and check its weapon icon before you touch it.
- If it’s not a Zarr, kill it for the standard rewards or keep spawning new Liches until one carries it; there’s no way to target it directly beyond farming faster.
- Once a Lich is carrying a Kuva Zarr, choose Vanquish, not Convert, to claim the weapon (Convert just turns the Lich into an ally instead of dropping loot).
The listed requirement is Mastery Rank 15, against MR7 for the base Zarr, but that gate reportedly isn’t enforced in practice. Multiple sources say players below MR15 have still claimed the weapon just by killing a Lich carrying it. Don’t build a plan around whether that gets patched, and don’t be shocked if it works below the listed rank.
One workaround if your own RNG is unkind: a converted Lich carrying a Kuva Zarr can be traded to another player.
- Convert, rather than vanquish, the Lich carrying the Kuva Zarr.
- Trade that Lich to another player through your Clan Dojo’s Crimson Branch; the weapon itself never trades directly, only the Lich does.
- Whoever receives it still has to vanquish it themselves to actually get the gun.
Whichever Warframe your Lich originally stole from decides the Progenitor bonus, roughly 25-60% bonus damage in one damage type stacked on top of the weapon’s normal stats. You’re stuck with whatever element your Lich rolled unless you take further action.
Want a different element?
- Valence Fuse a second Kuva Zarr into this one to push the bonus toward its cap.
- Or slot a rank-40 Elemental Vice mod to freely re-pick the element instead of being locked to your original roll.
Stats
| Class | Primary |
|---|---|
| Mastery Rank | 15 |
| Trigger | SEMI |
| Noise | Alarming |
| Fire Rate | 2.17 |
| Accuracy | 100 |
| Magazine | 5 |
| Reload | 4.8 s |
| Critical Chance | 25% |
| Critical Multiplier | 2.5x |
| Status Chance | 31% |
| Riven Disposition | (0.7) |
| Damage | 723 total |
|---|---|
| Impact | 50 |
| Blast | 673 |
Riven disposition sits at 0.70x, two of five dots. That’s low. If you’re deciding where to spend Kuva on rolls, weapons with a higher disposition give you more stat per roll for the same cost. A Zarr Riven is a comparatively inefficient use of that Kuva next to higher-disposition options.
Builds
This is a general Steel Path crowd-clear build, not a min-max burst setup. The idea is simple. Stack multishot so every cannonball throws more bomblets. Stack crit so those bomblets hit harder. Spend a slot on ammo, because you will run dry constantly otherwise.

| Mod | Why it’s here |
|---|---|
| Galvanized Chamber | +80% multishot, plus 30% more multishot per kill for 20 seconds, stacking up to 5 times. Extra multishot on this weapon means extra bomblets, not just extra pellets. It scales the cannonball’s clear radius, not just its damage. |
| Critical Delay | +200% critical chance for a -20% fire rate penalty. On a slow explosive weapon like this, that fire rate hit barely registers. |
| Vital Sense | +120% critical damage, flat. Once Critical Delay gets your crit chance up, this is what turns those crits into real numbers. |
| Hunter Munitions | 30% chance on a critical hit to also proc bonus Slash damage, which ignores armor entirely. This is your answer to tankier, higher-level Steel Path units that shrug off raw blast damage. |
| Primed Cryo Rounds | +165% Cold damage. Combined with the weapon’s innate Toxin bonus, that becomes Viral, which stacks well with the Slash procs from Hunter Munitions. |
| Primed Firestorm | +44% blast range on the radial explosion. More coverage per cannonball. Matters more the tighter the room is. |
| Vigilante Supplies | Adds ammo mutation, converting a portion of ammo you pick up into ammo for this weapon. Aimed straight at the Zarr’s worst-in-class ammo pool. Also half of the 2-piece Vigilante set bonus. |
| Vigilante Armaments | +60% multishot, more bomblets again, and it completes the Vigilante set bonus alongside Vigilante Supplies. |
That 8th slot gets argued about a lot in build guides. Some players run Serration there instead, skipping the Vigilante set bonus for flat damage over ammo sustain. Either is defensible.
For the arcane slot, Primary Merciless is the better-supported pick across build guides, stacking primary weapon damage on headshot kills up to roughly +360% at full stacks. One build guide suggests Arcane Rage instead, arguing it’s easier to proc reliably in Barrage mode specifically. That’s not settled consensus, but it’s a reasonable alternative if you lean on the alt-fire more than the cannon.

Pros and Cons
Pros
- Cannon mode still deletes rooms. A 7m blast spawns three more bomblets on impact, and multishot mods multiply that bomblet count too, so it scales unusually hard for a launcher.
- A genuine two-mode hybrid. Barrage turns it into a 10-pellet, high-puncture shotgun with long punch-through, built for single tough targets. Not purely an AoE-or-nothing weapon.
- September 2026 tier lists still rank it S-tier, calling it the AoE weapon that came through DE’s headshot and radial-damage rework relatively intact.
- Comes with a free built-in damage bonus most non-Lich weapons don’t get, a 25-60% Progenitor element bonus, maxable through Valence Fusion and re-electable through Elemental Vice.
- No blueprint grind, no plat cost to acquire. Find or trade for a Lich carrying one, then kill it.
Cons
- Reported as the worst ammo economy of any explosive weapon currently in the game. 5 max reserve ammo, only 1 restored per pickup, and a single reload empties the whole reserve.
- Self-staggers you on your own cannon and bomblet explosions. In practice that forces a dedicated fix, either Cautious Shot in the exilus slot or the very slow to earn Primed Sure Footed, just to fire it safely at the range you’d normally want to stand.
- Low Riven disposition, 0.70x, 2 of 5 dots, makes Riven investment comparatively inefficient next to higher-disposition weapons.
- No longer the automatic best-in-slot pick. The 2026 meta’s top tier is led by Incarnon and precision-status weapons like Torid, Laetum, and Kronen Prime. The headshot rework specifically stripped radial damage of the headshot bonuses that used to make this weapon hit even harder.
This is a weapon for Steel Path players who already have a Lich carrying one, or who don’t mind farming Liches until they get one. It’s a strong crowd-clear pick that still holds up against tankier enemies once Hunter Munitions is in the build, and the dual fire modes mean you’re not helpless against one hard target either. Not worth chasing over other priorities if your Mastery Rank is nowhere near 15 and you’d rather spend that Lich-farming time elsewhere. And if ammo management annoys you, know that going in. This weapon will make you feel it.
