Hell-Scrub Guide (2026): How the 1999 Survival Mode Works
How Hell-Scrub works, what fails a run, and how to win it
Last Updated on September 30, 2026
The short answer
Hell-Scrub is Survival with a twist: your life support comes from Hell-Scrubbers, and Techrot spores keep locking them. Kill spores as they appear, keep one clean scrubber in reserve, and bring Gas or Magnetic damage for the Techrot.
Researched September 29, 2026, current through Update 44 (Iceblade of Narin). Picks need two independent sources; anything we could only confirm once is left out.

How it works
- Hell-Scrub is Survival in Höllvania, played on Mischta Ramparts (Scaldra) and Old Konderuk (Techrot). Life Support Capsules are replaced by Hell-Scrubbers, and the meter is called Survivability.
- A blue Techrot spore grows on a scrubber every 15 seconds, up to four. A scrubber with any spore on it cannot be used.
- When the fourth spore forms you get a warning and 15 seconds to destroy a spore. If you miss it, the scrubber becomes an Eximus Techrot Babau that drops three life support modules when killed.
- Enemies drop SporeX charges that refill Survivability. Rewards come every five minutes in an AABC rotation: 600 Endo and Meso relics on A, 1,000 Endo and Neo relics on B, 1,600 Endo and weapon blueprints on C.
Tips that save runs
- Watch for the red HUD marker. It shows which scrubber is being taken over.
- Clear spores as they appear. One spore is enough to lock the scrubber, and the fourth starts a 15-second clock.
- A Babau is not a wasted scrubber. It drops three life support modules, but you lose the working scrubber.
- On the Techrot node, build for Gas or Magnetic. Techrot resist Cold.
- Survivability at 0 percent fails the mission, so use a clean scrubber before the meter empties.
Mistakes that waste runs
- Letting spores stack to four and missing the 15-second warning.
- Bringing Cold damage against Techrot.
- Waiting until Survivability is nearly empty before you clear a scrubber.
